In the international market, gold traded lower at USD 1,802 per ounce and silver was flat at USD 24.30 per ounce.
"Be a buyer as long as Nifty holds above 17,950. With two days to go for the October F&O expiry, Nifty50 could give a big surprise on the upside," independent analyst Manish Shah said.

The Nifty Bank index closed 0.11 per cent up at 41238.3.
