Stocks from the sector have seen a break-neck rally throughout this past year, aided by heavy buying from institutional and retail investors. The sector is steadily becoming the third biggest export story from India, following on the footsteps of the software and pharmaceutical industry.

Byju Raveendran & family’s wealth stood at Rs 24,300 crore, according to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021.

The Nifty Auto index was trading 0.13 per cent down at 10641.45.

McLeod Russel India, which are held by Ichamati Investments, had pledged the shares with IndusInd Bank in order to secure outstanding dues of the tea plantation firm.

Following the development, shares of Persistent Systems soared 6 per cent to Rs 3,755 early Thursday before paring half the gains to trade at Rs 3,663.30 at 10.10 am (IST). The scrip had closed at Rs 3,544.10 on Wednesday.
